Is VMindmap free?
Creating an account and building mind maps is free. The site administrator decides which modules are available on this installation.
Can I turn a mind map into tasks?
Yes. Use “Convert to Action” in the editor. A six-step wizard lets you pick the scope, the type of plan and the structure, preview everything and then generate a project with linked tasks.
What happens to tasks when I edit the mind map?
Tasks stay linked to their topics. Renaming a topic renames the task (unless you turn name sync off), and status, priority, assignee, due date and progress show on the topic. If you delete a topic with a task, you choose whether the task is deleted too.
Can several people edit at the same time?
Yes. Changes appear for everyone within seconds, with presence and live cursors. If two people change the same thing, VMindmap shows the conflict instead of silently overwriting one of the edits.
Who can see my mind maps?
Mind maps are private by default. You can share them with specific people, a workspace, anyone with the link, a password, or publicly. Editing and commenting always require an account and an invitation.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The editor supports touch and pinch zoom, and task lists, kanban and calendar adapt to small screens. You can install VMindmap as an app from your browser.
Which file formats are supported?
Mind maps export to PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, JSON, XML, Markdown, HTML, OPML, FreeMind and text, and import from JSON, XML, Markdown, OPML, FreeMind and text. Action plans export to PDF, Excel, CSV and JSON.
Can I host VMindmap myself?
Yes. It runs on shared hosting with PHP and XML storage, on a VPS with MySQL and Redis, or in the cloud with WebSocket real-time collaboration — all from the same code.
Does the AI change my data?
No. The AI assistant only suggests ideas, tasks, priorities and milestones. Nothing is added or changed until you confirm it.
How are reminders sent?
A scheduler runs on the server (cron on shared hosting or a worker on a VPS) and sends due-date and overdue reminders in the app and by email, even when nobody has VMindmap open.
Can one map have several tabs?
Yes. Add up to 30 tabs per map, each with its own tree. Topics can link to any tab or topic, and right-clicking a topic creates a linked tab or a separate linked map.
Can I send a project report to my client?
Yes. Each project can publish a branded online page and a PDF with a cover page, progress, timeline, milestones and the work plan. You choose the sections, can hide people's names and add a password or an expiry date.
Can PDFs carry my own logo, header and footer?
Yes. In Settings → Print & branding every user uploads a logo and sets a colour, header, footer and contact line. Mind map, report and client PDFs use them automatically.
Can I look at templates before signing up?
Yes. Every template in the gallery opens as a real, read-only map. Choose “Use template” to start your own copy after signing up.
